My family is the type that will flat out call you lazy or no good because you only have burst of energy and are forced to conserve for it to last. In my case the more physical stuff I do the shaker I get and my brain starts losing focus. The question is how to deal with people saying this when there is nothing you can do to stop it

We are here for you Conan. I am sorry you’re facing that. You don’t owe anyone an explanation, so prioritize what works for you and lean on those who truly support you.
Conan - I’m really sorry you’re dealing with that—it’s frustrating when people don’t understand what MS does to your body. Managing energy isn’t about being lazy; it’s about making sure you can function as best as possible.
One thing that can help is having an open conversation when you’re up for it. Sometimes, people don’t realize how tough it is until you explain that pushing too hard can actually make things worse. If they’re open to learning, you could even share resources or comparisons—like how a phone on low battery needs to recharge, not just keep running.
That said, not everyone will understand, and that’s not your burden to carry. Protecting your energy, both physically and emotionally, is so important. Surrounding yourself with people who do get it can make all the difference. I’d really encourage you to check out a support group through the National MS Society—they have both in-person and virtual options where you can connect with others who truly understand what you’re going through.
You’re not alone in this, and you don’t have to prove your struggles to anyone. Just keep doing what’s best for you.
The ms life community is here for you.
